  Won the 1896 and 1900 elections over William J. Bryan by popular votes of 7,102,246 to 6,492,559 and 7,218,491 to 6,356,734 and electoral votes of 271 to 176 and 292 to 155. Shortly after his second inauguration, he was assassi- nated by Czolgosz. During his first term Garret A.
